arthritis diet
1. nutrition
Foods to add to your diet:
• cabbages
• whole grains such as rice, oats, corn
• fish
• fresh fruits & vegetables
• leafy greens
• garlic, onions
• olive oil
• sweet potatoes (not regular potatoes)
• squash
• eggs
• parsley
 
Foods to avoid:
• refined foods (canned, processed, etc)
• saturated fats from dairy or animal origin
• high gluten foods such as pastries and wheat products
• Nightshade family plants such as tomatoes, peppers, capsicum, potatoes
• caffeine (colas, coffee, tea, chocolate)
 
2. dietary suggestions
• On rising, take a glass of lemon juice and water, or glass of fresh grapefruit juice
• with breakfast, have a glass of carrot, beet root and cucumber or celery juice, or any combination. (please note, beet juice will turn your urine red!)
• sip pure spring or mineral water all day
• before bed drink a glass of celery juice or vegetable broth (recipe below).
• drink vege broth any time of day
How to make vege broth:
1. Cover the following with water
2. in a soup pot:
3. 3-4 carrots,
4. 2 potatoes with skins, 1 onion,
5. 3 stalks celery, small bunch parsley,
6. 1/2 cabbage, 1/2 bunch broccoli
7. Simmer covered 30 mins
8. Strain and discard solids.
9. Add salt if desired

*rich in potassium, iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium
 
3. supplements
• barley juice or chlorophyll rich juice food
• vitamin C (good quality with synergists)
• bromelain (a pineapple derivative, helps reduce inflammation)
• omega 3 fatty acids
  • chondrosamine / glucosamine sulfate

Types of arthritis
(Note: there are many others)
Rheumatoid (RA): a systemic disease, which affects connective tissue; arthritis is the dominant complaint, involving many joints, esp. hand & feet. Joint cartilages become eroded; the course is variable, often chronic and progressive, leading to deformities and disability.
Osteoarthritis (OA): erosion of joints, due to injury or other conditions, with degeneration of bone and outgrowths of marginal osteophytes (spurs); pain and loss of function result. Main type helped by chiropractors.
 
4. Some drugs & their adverse effects:
• Gold. Unknown how it works. Skin irritation, gut pain & irritation common, urinary changes, swelling in feet
• Chloroquine. Anti malarial also used for Rheumatoid arthritis
• Penicillamine. Used in severe RA Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rash
• Sulphasalazine. For RA and for bowel inflammation
• Non steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): e.g.: Ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen, etc. Heartburn, stomach pain. Short or Long term use can cause serious gastric bleeding and anaemia.
